Strange problem with comments?
-
Hi @chrisjb
Happy New Year.
Auto Load Next Post is not designed to load comments so this is an odd error to be receiving.
I see that both sites are using a different permalink structure. I don’t think that would be the cause but perhaps you can refresh your permalink settings just in case.
Go to “Settings > Permalinks” and press the save button.
If that does not work, double check that the theme selectors match in the settings on the live site compared to the staging site.
Let me know if that helped.
Thanks for replying Sébastien; really appreciate your help.
I tried re-saving permalinks and no luck. I also changed the permalink structure to the same as the site it does work on and still no luck.
I feel like it is something to do with comments because the URL loads and the comments for the next post but not the post (although I have comments on display: none).
I’ve made sure all the settings are exactly replicated on both sites but still no joy.
The files are exactly the same, so it must be a setting. Just not sure what it could be.
Thanks for the great plugin — absolutely great. I just need to figure out this bug.
Also, I had a great idea for another plugin you might be interested in (or as a development of this plugin):
Infinite scroll on paginated posts (https://en.support.wordpress.com/nextpage/).
I would really like this for two important reasons:
1. Decrease page load time (because the first page of the post is smaller so loads faster)
2. You can see what percentage of people read past a certain portion of the article. E.g. if you divide a post into 4 pages and you see 90% of readers don’t read past page 2, you know page 2 needs to be improved. Thanks for your help. Really appreciate it. I hope I can get it fixed.
Thanks,
ChrisHi @chrisjb
It does sound odd that your site is exactly the same and is having different results.
You should not need to hide the comments section using CSS as there is an option for ALNP to take care of that for you under the “Misc” section of the settings page.
Please try to attempt troubleshooting plugin conflicts and see if that can give any different results.
As per your feature suggestion, it is currently in the works with ALNP Pro. Development has been slow as this is a free plugin and still working out some core issues to work with many different themes as possible before releasing anything new.
The JavaSript for ALNP is also being re-written but no ETA on when it will be finished.
My main focus right now is finishing and releasing the documentation re-written for both users and developers.
I do provide a professional configuration service that will allow me to setup ALNP for you if you are interested.
I await your response.
regards,
Sébastien.

I built this site using the twentynineteen theme, installed Auto Load Next Post and everything worked perfectly, as seen here:
http://augrent.co.uk/2018/12/22/13-organic-sls-free-shampoos-that-do-not-contain-sodium-lauryl-sulfate/
Then I moved the theme to the live site here:
https://www.nicehair.org/10-organic-shampoos-that-do-not-contain-sodium-lauryl-sulphate/
And the plugin is not working. It seems to auto load the comments section of the next post but not the next post. I’ve hidden comments using CSS because it looks like the plugin is adding comments even though I’ve turned them off.
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
