Structured Data Location issue

Google’s search console reported a structured data problem this morning. I never use a location, almost all of my “events” are due dates for award program submissions or online events. as a result almost all of my events have a location @type of “VirtualLocation” but it is giving an error saying invalid object type (when you use rich results test)

i played around with google’s example for an online event (https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/structured-data/event) and if i take out the line:

      "eventAttendanceMode": "https://schema.org/OnlineEventAttendanceMode",

it causes the VirtualLocation to return an the object type error. Just wondered if anyone had similar issues. it makes sense this line be there if it is a virtualLocation.
