    I’ve set up a certification course that includes quizzes for most sections. All of these are set with a minimum passing grade, most of 100%.

    The Final Assessment has a minimum passing grade of 85%.

    I have students receiving an email saying they’ve been certified after they complete the Final Assessment, but when I manually check on them, I can see people who scored under 50% on this assessment and they’re still getting this email and are shown as having completed 100% of the course.

    When I click on that lesson, click on the quiz and open its settings, it’s definitely set at an 85% passing minimum. Even Lifter has a default passing grade of 60%, and people are passing with grades lower than that.

    LOOKING IN FURTHER … I found someone getting less than 100% on a bunch of quizzes with 100% set as the minimum. So this is really a question for why they’re passing everything without the minimums.

    Anyone have an idea on how I can fix this? Thank you.

  • @steve4nes,

    By default the completion of a quiz (regardless of grade) triggers the completion of the associated lesson. The existence of the passing grade option exists so that you can on a case-by-case basis determine what you want to consider passing. EG your final assessment could require an 85% but all your other quizzes could require a 50% (or however you configure it).

    On the lesson settings you’ll see an option that says “Require Passing Grade on Quiz”

    This is off by default and when you enable it will prevent lesson completion if the student fails the associated quiz.

    This is your key here — you want to prevent progression for those who don’t pass. Go check these boxes and you’ll be good to go!

    Additionally, my guess is your certification emails are setup on a lesson completion trigger. This is fine if you also prevent completion on the lesson but with what I’m imagining your current settings are it would cause the issue you’re encountering.

    Hope that helps,

    Thomas, thank you, but this hasn’t resolved it for me yet. When I click the icon that says “Edit Lesson Settings” I have these options under General Settings:

    * Permalink
    * Video Embed URL
    * Audio Embed URL
    * Free Lesson
    * Drip Method

    There are no other settings available to me.

    Under the Quiz Settings I have the Passing Percentage set.

    Where can I find this “Require Passing Grade on Quiz”?

    (We appear to be on version 3.17.)

    @steve4nes,

    Are you sure you’re looking at the settings for the right lesson?

    This setting is not visible if you don’t have a quiz attached to your lesson. If you do have a quiz attached you’ll see the following: https://www.evernote.com/l/AUDeI8XdgOpBMZgvjulCntjKd0iB9TrFwWMB/image.png

    There was a quiz attached. In the version I’m using — 3.17 — there is no option to Require Passing Grade in the quiz section of the Course Builder. But I found out from the Facebook group that I could go into the WordPress page of the lesson and click on the Quiz tab there and choose the Require Passing Grade option there. So I’m all set now. Thanks — your initial answer provided me with the right question to ask on FB.
