Styles disappeared

Hi. I’m setting up a testing server duplicate site for client’s live wordpress. It’s a slightly old install – 2.8.4. Got the database and the files migrated over, and all was mostly well, site displayed fine.

I was working on trying to increase the php memory limits because I can’t import all posts. And suddenly I have no style. No style rules are being applied, although style.css exists, and I can edit it in the admin. Admin displays fine. I can’t access the stylesheet directly in the browser with http://sitename/wp-content/themes/themename/style.css I get file not found. On the live site, stylesheet pops up no problem.

Why is the stylesheet not loading? Anyone recognize these symptoms?
