What version of wordpress are you using? Who submitted the new post for review? Is that post a regular blog post? I assume you receive other emails that come from your WordPress install and you made sure this one is not in the spam folder.

WordPress 3.9.1 running Nash theme.

I logged out of my admin account, and logged into one of the ‘Contributor’ accounts, and submitted a post for review so that I could test that the plugin worked.

I believe so. Not sure what other kinds of blog posts there are.

Yes, I checked my Spam folder and my quarantine at the end of the day. Didn’t see it anywhere.
It is hard to say what’s causing this problem. I am not able to replicate it and I haven’t heard others having this problem. It might be caused by a setting or maybe another plugin.
Is the contributor receiving an email when the post is approved?
