subscribing to a forum just notifies users to new topics, they are not subscribed to those topics. That is a bbpress thing.
You can use this plugin to fix that

Thanks Robin, Is it correct that without your plug-in they should get an email just that a new topic is created? I have a second user profile that is in the group but it didn’t get a notice.
I installed the plug-in you mention, thankyou for creating that. I don’t see any settings so figure it’s automatic? We did post a new topic but again it didn’t show subscribe after installing the plug-in or send out an email so I am wondering if I need to do something with that.
We have a small group registered and we are notifying them that the topic is there and they understand we’re just getting going so it’s not the end of the world. But we’re hoping to get it solved before adding the bulk of the members.
back to your original post
That group is set to be subscribed to the forum automatically.
How are you doing that ?
I got my plug-ins mixed up. The auto-subscribe is in bbP Toolkit v1.0.12. I was thinking it was yours but it’s not. Thanks for that question.
FYI, here is what I am trying to do.
All users will be subscribed to two forums on signup. And I have set that up via bbP Toolkit. That is working for those topics under that forum.
There is a group within those users that have access to two forums above but have an additional private forum just for them. That’s where I’m having the problem as I can’t automatically subscribe them since I don’t want to automatically subscribe everyone to that forum. (I must have wrongly assumed that they were automatically subscribed to their private forum).
My problem with bbpress is I’m adding users and they aren’t subscribing to the messages so the dialogue is just not getting going. There is also an auto-tick feature in the above tool kit that I have selected and allows that they will receive messages in reply to theirs (assumes most won’t notice it or bother). That helps but isn’t solving the problem.
I have an old discussion group software (can’t update it anymore) that was fairly straightforward and I’m finding it challenging to duplicate through bbpress.
hmmm…not sure how you would achieve that without bespoke coding.
I am on holiday until 21st May, but contact me after that if you’d like me to look at some bespoke code – chances are it would be quite cheap to do.
The bbp-toolkit is not from Robin but is mine, yes, but that is not an isse 🙂
How do you add them to the private forum? Is that manual or based on e.g. a capability?
Pascal.
Thanks for you reply Pascal.
I have 3 forums and two are checked in your plug-in so all users are subscribed at set-up. I’ll call them forum a, b, c. This is really nice thank you.
I have 3 groups of users, say group 1, 2, 3. They are set as participants/subscribers that I set up with Robin’s bbp Private Group plug-in. This is also really nice. Everyone can access the forums a and b and only group 3 can access forum c.
But I don’t see how I can automtically subscribe group 3 to forum c with the current tools.
I hope that explains it.
@casiepa if you can help that would be great – I’m away on holiday !!
