Hello, that is really tough question as there is no way telling if the email address is authentic or it is a spam. You can always export subscriber list (or check on a CMP Subscribers page if you have version > 1.8.0 – there should be IP address as well which might help), and check if the email address seems legitimate.
Also, if you are using our CMP subscriber form, it is protected by honeypot method against spammers, and I can tell it works quite well, although it`s not bulletproof of course.

Hi Alex,
Thanks for your reply, I guess I just felt if they were genuine they’d be more business addresses, but a lot of them look slightly spammy, or are just personal gmail addresses.
I am using your CMP plugin, so I presume I am using your CMP subscriber form? My site is http://www.tideandtree.com if you can check? It would be great if it had one of those capture things to make sure it’s a human subscriber.
Can I ask how the IP address would help me differentiate? I am a bit behind the times with what it all means!
Thanks
Charlie
Hi Charlie, captures are not usually used on subscriber forms as visitors do not want to be bothered by these type of things anymore, from my experience subscriber`s number goes down to zero when captcha is used.
We are using hidden fields on subscriber forms which will catch very high number of spam robots. Gmail email address are usually real people 🙂
If you have IP address, you could use some online tool like http://www.dnsbl.info/ to check if it is a recorded spam IP address or not.
