Suggestion: Encrypted backups

Hello,

first, BackWPup is a great backup-plugin, thanks for your work!

But there is one thing I am missing: I am feeling better when the backups are encrypted with an own password before they are send in the cloud/mail/ftp. Is this possible, maybe in the future or as a pro-feature?

I have nothing found about this in the docs and it seems this option is not in the plugin settings yet.

Hi @chriszim,
Currently, there is no plan for BackWPUp to create encrypted backup.
We will consider to adding this feature if market interest is high enough

In Europe backups need to be encrypted in most cases latest starting May 25th … due to GDPR / DSGVO.

Even worldwide wordpress backups need to be done according to these regulations. As long as europeans have access to it and leave personal data (like name, IP-adress, cookie, etc).

–> I would like this feature very much !!
(And 99% of all other users should want it)

we currently working on it, maybe it would take about 2 weeks 🙂
