Sunspot thumbnails on 2 column layout

    Hi,
    when I choose to have a 2 column format on home page, with excerpts showing. Is it possible to have a thumbnail image to be shown with excerpts? For example, one that is already included in the post.
    If so, how do create this ?
    I have the CSS upgrade, but am really a wordpress/ IT basic.
