Support for Forums with WordPress?

I thought I read somewhere that you could run a forum with WordPress. When I looked for more about it later, I could find nothing. I figured I imagined it. Then, in the intro/features section I saw a sentence that said the entire ww.wp.xz.cn site could be run using WordPress. I assume that means these forums as well.

Can anyone tell me if there is support for a forum? And if so, can you point me to the documentation on it, please?

That doesn’t actually let you run a forum using the wordpress package though – it just integrates wordpress with a forum package.

WordPress is a blog… if you want a forum instead of a blog, then consider bbpress, or phpbb, or any of the other fine forum packages out there.
