• I’ve got a site installed at flametreecoop.com/community but I’ve set the site url to a domain we bought at flametree.coop and redirected that domain to where the site is installed. Everything works fine except that the address bar just displays “flametree.coop” for all pages, and I want it to display the full path of the url.

After a lot of back and forth, the support desk at flametree.coop informed me that the code on my site doesn’t support the path forwarding they use.

Does anyone know if that’s something I can address?

    Thanks

You’ll need to add the domain to your hosting account, and then properly move WordPress following this guide: http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Moving_WordPress#Changing_Your_Domain_Name_and_URLs

    Thanks James.
I was hoping to avoid needing to move the WordPress. Is that really the only way? Everything works perfectly, just as it is, except for that one small issue of displaying the path of the url.
But making it display properly is pretty necessary in the long run, and it will be Good For Me to learn how to move a WordPress, so I’ll do it if I have to – but if there were another way I would take it.

You might be able to map the added domain to the existing directory via your hosting panel, so you wouldn’t have to move the files (but you still would need to change the settings first), but you’ll need to check with your hosting provider for instructions.

OK, thanks. I’ve had them add the new domain as an alias on the domain where WordPress is installed. Is that what it means to map the added domain to the directory?

Probably, they all do it differently, and most use different terminology too, so confusing. 🙂

    Is it working as expected?

Well, it displays all the pages, but I did that before I posted this original question, so it’s still the same issue that I’ve been facing.

Ok, so each page just shows the domain, there is nothing to the URL after it?

    (@flame-tree-coop)

That’s right. (Sorry about the delays in this discussion – there are days when I can’t get to this work at all, it’s in my spare time…)

We’re looking into moving the WordPress after all, now. It’s certainly the surest way to solve it.

Ok, check with your domain registrar to make sure that domain masking is not enabled.

    Thread Starter Flame Tree Coop

    (@flame-tree-coop)

Oh really? Doesn’t it work with domain masking enabled? I thought that was to cover up the redirect, otherwise it would just display the path that it’s been redirected to.

Er, I’ll go undo that (I’ve got simple web access to a few of those settings) and see what that does. Thanks.

Masking covers *everything* with just the domain, even the URL paths.

If you want to use that domain, you should add it to your hosting account (see your hosting provider for instructions) and follow this guide: https://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Moving_WordPress#Changing_Your_Domain_Name_and_URLs
