A migration to the fontsource API (which supports variable fonts) is in the works, but I can’t give an ETA just yet, because there’s more things to consider (the other API only supports WOFF and WOFF2, for example)

@daanvandenbergh If you haven’t seen my answer, this is a gentle reminder 🙂
Small update: I’m still researching the possibilities here. But since it basically requires a complete refactor of the code, it’ll take a while. Sorry.
Hi again @rookie,
This beta includes basic support for Variable Fonts. If a Google Font is a variable font, it basically pulls the stylesheet from the Google Fonts API and rewrites it to only include local files.
Still have a looong way to go to offer full support for Variable Fonts, but this is a step in the right direction. 🙂
Hi again @rookie,
The last update includes full support for Variable Fonts.
Sorry to keep you waiting this long, but it was a big one! 🙂

@daanvandenbergh Cool and amazing! With variable fonts do you still need to pick 700 as weight as you remember the discussion only adding 400 and anything outside bold as the browser can sort 700 and italic themselves. While if you need 800 or 900 you have to load the font.
Haven’t looked at the new UI but if all font weights to pick is still there I would ask the same questions how it works with variable fonts. You must be the expert on it now just integrated it.
Does it work smooth with the additional fonts plugin?
