I see that this plugin is compatible with PHP 5.5 or higher where the Core itself doesn’t supports up to PHP 7.1 while WordPress recommends using PHP 7.4+. These days most active plugins supports PHP 7.4+. Using newer PHP code is best for security and performance.

    Hi @seanlance,

WPCode is backwards compatible as the plugin is used on more than 2 million websites. We keep those versions lower to allow users to update even if they are on older versions of WordPress so that they get the latest improvements too.

We are planning on increasing the minimum version to PHP 7+.

The performance improvements mainly come from PHP itself not so much the new patterns introduced for a plugin like ours.

If you have any concerns or questions let me know.
