My company’s website has 2 plugins that generate sitemaps: Google XML Sitemaps and this one, the SEO Framework. The Google XML Sitemaps sitemap is overriding the sitemap from SEO Framework, and it looks like it’s now causing a conflict by telling search engines to not index the other sitemap. In order to stop having these issues, I should deactivate the Google XML Plugin, and make sure that just this plugin outputs the sitemap, correct? Once this happens, will it only take a few days for the Google and other search engine crawlers to see this sitemap? Thank you.

    Hello!

TSF disables its sitemap when it detects Google XML Sitemaps — it’s technically not being overridden.

Anyway, that’s correct: if you disabled the other sitemap plugin, you should be able to view TSF’s sitemap at /sitemap.xml. Perhaps you must enable it first on the SEO Settings page, under the Sitemaps meta box.

And yes, search engines will automatically discover TSF’s sitemap after a few days, sometimes weeks. You’d do well submitting the new sitemap to Google and Bing manually, however, so that you can inspect if everything’s working well. You should not notice any traffic/ranking spike or drop as a result of changing sitemaps.

If you’re finding issues, let me know! Cheers 🙂
