Version 4.0.3 clearly has some problems and I guess we are all waiting for 4.1 in the hope that most if not all are resolved. I have some sympathy with the developers as they are faced with thousands of users who will be using different versions of PHP, possibly different versions of WordPress, a myriad of themes and pagebuilders and the need to satisfy everyone’s inventive workarounds from version 3.

For myself I have converted all my galleries and albums on three sites to the new blocks and found an adequate way to define widgets via shortcodes. Now that I have deleted the massive error logs resulting from the change, I am now free of those errors and I can relax a bit more. That isn’t going to be a tractable option for those with huge numbers of galleries.

Looking at the variety of issues raised recently, I have shared experience of some but I can’t replicate some others. Just another problem for the developers trying to suit everyone. I do have a suspicion that there are some options which I set in v3 eg, caption view, but which are not now explicitly offered in v4 and which may get disrupted if legacy features are removed. I have to wait and hope.

    Hello @mbsharp,

Thank you for your comprehensive feedback on your experience with NextGEN Gallery.

You’ve done well to overcome challenges by updating your galleries to Imagely block and using shortcodes for widgets. Your insights into the complexities developers face with different environments and configurations are useful and provide a balanced perspective.

As you’ve noted, moving from version 3 to version 4 can be difficult, especially regarding legacy settings and prior workarounds. It’s good to know you’re now running error-free, though this might be more challenging for those with extensive galleries.

We believe we’ve tackled the most critical issues, rendering NextGEN Gallery quite stable at version 4.0.5, and encourage everyone to test it. While there are ongoing challenges with very large gallery lists, the development team is working diligently to address them.

Please feel free to reach out if there’s anything specific on your mind or any assistance you need. Your feedback is very valuable, and I’ll gladly pass on key points to the developers.

Thanks for your understanding and constructive input.
