Edit – I had the same issue and I just kept trying to get to my dashboard in different ways – finally got there and was able to deactivate and delete this plugin. Everything is working again, although it seems slow now.

I’ve just had exactly the same issue!
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘[‘ in /websites/pr/propelleradvisory.com.au/wp-content/plugins/backwpup/backwpup.php on line 69
And now I cannot get into my dashboard, AND I cannot see my website.

Seems you are running an outdated version of PHP ( PHP 5.3 I guess ), that why the newest version of BackWPUp can’t working correctly, please contact your hoster and ask them for upgrade PHP version to at least 5.6 and it should works!
Thank you for your message – I actually contacted them TWICE and they are telling me I have the latest version (it says so on the dashboard). Anyway, I think you may be right!
@michelnewel
hmm weird, please give me your server info from your dashboard -> Tools -> Site health
In case you see PHP 5.3 or even 5.6 and your hoster said you are running the latest PHP version, I would personally recommend that you run away ASAP from that hoster because they still give you an outdated PHP version in 2020, others hosting providers will help you do the migration for free and they should come with the latest version of PHP, having a new version of PHP is important for your website speed and security!
since we haven’t heard back from you, I’m going to mark it as resolved.
If you’re still having problems, feel free to let us know ;),
Thank you. I contacted the hoster and they fixed the problem. All good now.
