Hi. I clicked to update WordPress and several plug-ins, but now I can’t access my site (www.steve-pill.co.uk). I’m getting the following error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_PAAMAYIM_NEKUDOTAYIM in /websites/123reg/LinuxPackage21/ar/to/ft/artofthecity.co.uk/public_html/wp-content/plugins/kirki/core/class-kirki-modules.php on line 88

(Artofthecity.co.uk was my old site). I looked online and it suggested using an FTP client to amend this so I downloaded FileZilla, but it won’t allow me to log in to my site via FileZilla – it’s saying the username and password aren’t recognised, despite being logged in earlier today. I can’t reset my password either as I can’t access the http://www.steve.pill.co.uk/wp-admin page as I get the same Parse error.

Is there any other way of correcting the parse error? I don’t mind resetting the site as was about to install a new theme anyway, just don’t know how – bit of a newbie to all this! Thanks.

  • I Have the same problem.

This is because you are probably using PHP 5.2.
If possible you should really consider updating your servers to something a bit newer since PHP 5.2 is 10 years old and not as fast or secure as newer versions of PHP.
    WordPress itself recommends using PHP7.

Kirki 3.0.5 which will be release shortly adds compatibility with PHP 5.2, so as soon as you update it you will be ok.

If you can’t access your dashboard to automatically update the plugin, you can login to your site via FTP, delete the plugin manually from wp-content/plugins, and then simply re-install from your dashboard.
