I tried adding the tag id to the category id field, but no posts appeared in the carousel … is this the way it should be done?

I thought that you want to display tags from post -not tags as taxonomy.

Plugins great … just scenario testing for the last week. I have one more suggestion around the tags taxonomy management to take on another element of the WP Archive functionality.
With the archive list if you add “+” between tags in the archive url … e.g. domain.com/tag/apple+google/
You only get articles that have both apple “and” google tags
As opposed to articles with apple “or” google tags
Would be great if this functionality was included … if you need any help testing, would be happy to help out 🙂

I’m sorry, but I haven’t found a suitable solution for your proposals without security problems.
I can only change the way of inserting tags: name instead of id.

Yes name instead of ID would definitely be beneficial … more intuitive.
No worries on the “and / or” functionality … It would defiantly add another dimension to the plugin, something which is not readily available.
If you think of another solution that is successful and you need a tester… just let me know 🙂
