It seems to be a compatibility issue with the multi-language plugin WPML.
It is weird as switching that on and off makes the team plugin work on the german, but not the english site.
All our Team data on the english site is now lost.

We have added dedicated support for the WPML plugin from 1.9.0. If you don’t set translation in the English language for all the team members, then WPML can’t understand the posts’ language (i.e., Team members). This is the reason for this issue. So please assign the English language translation to your team members. If you have already added the English translation by customizing WPML settings, you may have to use the WPML Troubleshooting Options. For your case, the ‘Set language information’ command may be useful. You can also try other commands if this doesn’t work. But, please don’t forgot to take a backup of your site before doing this.
