To be clear, obv I am already ‘running’ wordpress as I can easily access my site and dashboard and all that and I’m on here now – I just meant what do I need to open any plug-ins…?
are you installing the plugins (would be useful if you could post the names) from within the dashboard – plugins – add new -install plugins panel or are you manually downloading and uploading them?
I Googled an ‘under construction’ download which took me to the WordPress PlugIn Directory page, and I was downloading it from there, not from the dash – should I be doing the latter? Wouldn’t even know where to start looking on the dashboard.
Might take self off soon but do reply if you’ve time/can help, and I’ll answer when I’m up again!

the plugins need to be uploaded to the wordpess installation on the server (into the /wp-content/plugins/ folder), either through the method from the dashboard, or from your computer using ftp or cpanel.

Ah. Many thanks. I’ve definitely downloaded what I need from the dashboard.
Now I just need to learn how to use the plug-ins I’ve downloaded – in fact I need a lesson in computer language in general because I still have no idea what I’m doing at all, so don’t worry, I’ll duck out of here and book into a course.
As for server query, I can see that a WordPress file is on my desktop but I can’t see it in the Applications bit of my hard drive, so wouldn’t know where to upload things ‘to’, as they just seem to sort of upload themselves.
Can you see that I really shouldn’t be let out at all? What does an idiot like me do when trying to be all technical? Go on a course, I guess.
