Telemetry (auto) cleaning
-
Hi I have a doubt about the telemetry function
Is not it that after a medium / long period the log becomes too large and slows down the site?
is an automatic cancellation system possible after a predetermined period of time?

Hi
I am also having problems with the telemetry function, which is adding 60Mb to the size of my database and thereby pushing over the 100Mb limit of my current hosting package.
Manually deleting the data (38,400 items within days) is time consuming and would have to be done almost daily. Crazy.
@adrievdl, there’s a Delete All button at the top of telemetry page.
But, still, auto-cleanup should be great.
Unfortunately what was said by @adrievdl confirms my concerns
Having an automatic cleaning option becomes essential!
Hello everyone,
Thanks for the heads up. I did implement an auto-cleaning functionality.
It runs every 12 hours.
But from what @adrievdl reported, it seems like this may not be working?
I think the problem of going is caused that it has a log too big and the cleaning is no longer likely because, once started, it strongly stresses the server and blocks it
Should I make it more frequent then? Maybe every hour?
In my opinion the ideal would be a parameter that can be customized according to needs or even the option that the log should not exceed a maximum weight of Tot megabyte
My options are
- hourly
- twicedaily
- daily
So the only option that may work is hourly.
I really wasn’t expecting 38,400 entries.
The telemetry is just like a post. Every 12 hours it runs and is supposed to clean all of those posts.
I have no way to check the database size.
I can change this to hourly and you guys can let me know if that works better for you?
I can also add an option to the general settings to disable the telemetry component if you don’t want to check it.
I too have the problem that the server can’t cope once I click ‘delete all’. It just crashes over and over.
Are there alternative options, such as a cloud-based log or a downloadable file? If it deletes the log every hour, do you even need to keep a log? Is it a legal requirement, for example?
My choice appears to be to upgrade my hosting package and pay extra on an ongoing basis – or wait until there’s a knock on the door and a potential fine from the GDPR authorities. That seems daft.
It’s not a requirement. It’s a helper tool to let you know what your installed plugins or theme is sending to external servers so you could opt to use a different plugin or confront the authors.
I will add an option to disable this feature. I will also add a more performant way of deleting these posts. I would love your help testing this @adrievdl. Since you seem to be heavily affected you would be of much help.
Sounds good. Happy to help. I do appreciate that the plugin is designed as a tool for compliance officers, so perhaps an option to keep a more permanent log elsewhere (cloud?) that doesn’t overwhelm servers may be a useful option for others. Thanks for being so helpful, by the way.
Hi Guys,
I haven’t had the time to modify much of this feature.
I added an option to disable it though.
