    If I modify a template, and place it as specified in the documentation, e.g.,

    wp-content/themes/THEME NAME/templates/pdb-list-my-template.php

    will it survive updates of the PDB Plugin?

    Yes, that’s why it’s not in the plugin folder.

    If you place custom templates in a theme, you must use a child theme, or the theme update will delete them.

    Another alternative is a free Custom Template Folder plugin I have on my website.
