    Hi,

We’d like to run promotions (e.g. Black Friday) and I’m not sure how Subscriptions handle discounts. Specifically:

    • If I set a sale price on a subscription product, will that discounted price apply only to the first payment, or will it also affect recurring renewals?
    • If I create a coupon (percentage or fixed amount), does it apply only to the initial order, or can it be configured to apply to recurring payments as well?
    • Are there best practices for running temporary promotions on subscription products (e.g. discount for the first month only vs. ongoing discount)?

Thanks in advance for clarifying the logic behind how Subscriptions handle sale prices and coupons.

  • Hello,

    • If you set sale price for subscription product then sale price will charge for first time and at a time of renewal order also sale price will be charge
    • If you create a coupon (percentage or fixed amount), so yes it will apply for first time only  and at a time of renewal order it will charge original prices.
    • According to best practices for running temporary promotions on subscription products  , we suggest create coupon either percentage or fixed amount

    Thank you

    Hello,

Thank you for the clear and quick response! That perfectly answers our initial questions and confirms we’re on the right track with coupons.

This brings up two more specific scenarios we need to plan for:

    1. Custom Discount Duration: Is it possible to create a coupon that applies a discount for a specific number of billing cycles (e.g., 3 months) and then automatically switches to the full price? Or is the “first payment only” model the only supported behavior?
    2. Future Price Changes: What is the system’s behavior if we change the original price of a subscription product in the future?
Example: A customer subscribes to a plan at $3/month. Later, we increase the product’s price to $5/month. When their subscription renews, will they be charged the original $3 or the new $5?

    Thanks again for your help!

    Hello,

We don’t support such custom coupon discount , so if create this then it will not work

If change product price of subscription product then it will effect only new subscription only for existing subscription it will charge older price

    Thank you
