Hi I’m having some issues with Yoast’s control of wp_title()

This taxonomy page won’t display the %%term_title%% variable on the front end, and the page title just omits that variable.

Other pages for this taxonomy have a similar issue. Unless I save a custom SEO Title for that taxonomy it ignores the defaults in Yoast’s settings page. I can save a SEO title for the taxonomy but then the term_title variable doesn’t appear. https://bostonchefssta.wpengine.com/restaurant_jobs/kitchen-manager

We have several custom taxonomies on the site and only this one seems to have the issue. I’ve tried testing for plugin conflicts, enabling ‘Rewrite titles’ but there was no change to the behavior.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hello @stirltech

Thanks for using the Yoast SEO plugin.

If you use %%term_title%% in the SEO title, you should get the term name. I checked the page source and see:

    <title>Jobs – Boston Chefs</title>

Am I correct that restaurant_jobs is the custom post type while kitchen-manager is the taxonomy?

Also, can you share a screenshot of the SEO title field for the taxonomy?

Hi @maybellyne, thank you for the response here. You are correct that restaurant_jobs is the CPT and kitchen-manager is the value for the job-position taxonomy in this case. Here is the settings for the job-positions taxonomy, it seems by default this is being ignored. I can edit and save an individual taxonomy item but then %%term_title%% doesn’t display on the front end. Strangely, the preview in the yoast panel for the taxonomy does seem to work

    Hello @stirltech

I’m sorry it took a while to get back to you; I couldn’t load the screenshots you shared. On my test site, using %%term_title%% %%sep%% %%sitename%% in the SEO fetches the taxonomy and sitename with the separator in between them. If everything works correctly in the Google preview but not on the frontend, have you cleared your browser cache?

Often, we see problems occur in combination with another plugin or theme. The fastest way to rule out any conflict is to deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Twenty-Two.

Please test this on your development or staging site if you have one. If not, we recommend using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. This plugin has a troubleshooting mode, which does not affect normal visitors to your site.

If you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process: How to check for plugin conflicts

If you feel uncomfortable doing this yourself or if this does not solve your issue, our Yoast SEO Premium plugin comes with one year of (technical) support.
