• The BreadcrumbList schema on my site is showing as ‘Unnamed item’ in Google’s Rich Results Test. Can you add a ‘name’ attribute to the auto-generated breadcrumb schema?

  • Hi @monsie

I’m glad you reached out. I’ll be happy to help!

There are a few possible causes for this issue. To better diagnose the problem, we’ll need to get a bit more information.

First, are you using an SEO plugin such as Yoast SEO or Rankmath? If so, how did you add the breadcrumbs to the site?

Second, does this appear on all pages of your site or only one?

Lastly, please provide a link to your site so we can run a few tests and suggest a fix.

    Thanks!
    Anthony

    Hi @aapc

    Thank you for your response.

I’m using All in One SEO (AIOSEO).

The breadcrumb schema currently appears on all pages of my site, including: homepage: https://iammonsie.com/ When I test the breadcrumb schema using Google’s Rich Results Test, it shows as valid, but displays “Unnamed item” for the BreadcrumbList element itself.

Could you help me identify why Google is flagging this as “Unnamed item” and suggest the best way to fix it?

    Thank you for your help!

    Hi @monsie

    Thanks for the additional info.

I reviewed the structured data on the page and there are no errors or warnings being reported by Google. The breadcrumb markup is valid, and Google is successfully detecting each breadcrumb item (Home, Illustration, and the current page).

The “Unnamed item” label you’re seeing in the Rich Results Test is a display quirk in Google’s testing tool that can happen when schema is generated by All in One SEO. Even though the tool shows the “Unnamed item” label, the actual name values are present in the markup and Google can read them correctly. Since the test is not flagging this as an issue, it does not affect indexing, rankings, or breadcrumb rich results in search.

In short — nothing is broken and there’s nothing that needs to be fixed from an SEO standpoint.

If you’d like additional confirmation or want to explore whether AIOSEO plans to adjust how their breadcrumb schema is rendered, it may be worth reaching out to their support team directly. They can confirm that this output is intentional and compliant with Google’s structured data requirements.

But as it stands now, your breadcrumbs are implemented correctly and there are no errors impacting search visibility.

    All the best,
    Anthony
