The [toc] and [ez-toc] shortcodes will fail to output a table if the number of headings on the page is less than the number specified in the “Show when X or more headings are present” option.

While this option makes sense for auto-insertion, it doesn’t make sense for shortcode-based TOCs since you’re manually invoking them in the first place.

What’s worse is that they fail silently, so there’s no obvious indication about why they’re not appearing on the page.

Sorry, but the shortcode should not show anything if the page does not meet the minimum requirements. Its original use was to simply override the automatic placement. It is presently an unsupported feature left in for backward comaptibility.

    Hello Steven,

Can I put an urgent request in to bring back the shortcode? 🙂
As we like to have 100% control over our design, that would be awesome.

Thanks in advance for your response.
