Thanks for the report… broken in what way? I’d need some more specifics. It does not sound possible; the backup process only creates extra files (specifically, the dumps) and does not delete, move or alter any existing files during the process. Nor does it change any WordPress settings during the process – it is literally only creating zip files and shifting them around. So there must be something else going on.

Hi,
Thanks for the prompt reply. I just ran a backup and the site showed the same behaviour- theme disappears, and the unformatted site with working links appears. Tested on both Safari and Firefox- after deleting browser caches and reloading site.
Then, after a short while, and another cache refresh, the site loads fine.
I’m wondering if it’s a server load issue? I checked allocated memory for php via the Settings page on UpdraftPlus:
Peak memory usage: 39.25 MB
Current memory usage: 39.25 MB
PHP memory limit: 256M
I ran a debug on a full backup and that was successful.
This wasn’t happening prior to the site restore (reinstall core WP files + restore from UpdraftPlus backups + import mySQL database)- so I’m wondering if problem is something I’ve done incorrectly in reinstalling the site.
Thanks for the excellent plugin again- saved my bacon 🙂
It sounds rather like your web hosting company may be applying some kind of throttling. You’d need to deploy a packet sniffer, or read your web logs, or use your web browser’s Developer tools to watch what is happening. As I say, it’s not technically possible that UpdraftPlus itself is making site resources temporarily unavailable (since all it does itself is create new files). If you need professional support (i.e. would struggle to look at your hosting logs or use Developer tools in your browser yourself) then there is http://updraftplus.com/shop/ – if it turns out to be an UpdraftPlus bug then you’d be refunded.

Thanks for the prompt response. Interesting idea about possible throttling. Will check those logs and sources. I doubt the problem is with the plugin. I have little idea what I’m doing but I am having tremendous fun, mostly 🙂
Cheers.
