Have you TRIED this with just the .htaccess that Network Admin — Network Setup tells you to use?
Hi Bet, sorry for the long delay. I had been busy and did not have time to work on my blog. I don’t have any .htaccess but the one i created.
Ok. But have you tried JUST the text from Network Admin — Network Setup in that .htaccess file?
Do you mean I need to copy the code i have in my wp-config.php and web-config.php to my .htaccess?
No. Go to Network Admin — Network Setup, and it will have a section “put this in your .htaccess file”.
Please try adding JUST what the network suggests in .htaccess.
My Network setup settings is showing just 2 codes to add to these files:
1. wp-config.php
2. web.config
There is no code suggested for .htaccess
Ok. So then you won’t need an htaccess. WP gives you the rules that it detects that you need. I’m sorry, your configuration is not what I was expecting. I would get rid of the .htaccess if Network setup doesn’t tell you to put something there, and there wasn’t an .htaccess to start with.
Let’s back up and clarify the issue, just so I understand: initially you asked about theme issues, but the bigger issue is that you cannot access any subsite dashboards, correct?
And, using ONLY what WP Network Setup tells you to add to wp-config.php, and to use for web.config, deleting .htaccess, you still have this issue?
Also, just to be sure, since another moderator removed your security-compromising info: you DO actually have Salts & Keys in your wp-config.php file, right? They were just deleted by the mod?
That’s right. I am not able to assign a theme because i can’t access to any subsite dashboard.
I do have salts & keys in my wp-config.php
I removed the .htaccess but still get the error:
herbax.org redirected you too many times.
ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS
So when I try to visit herbax.org, I get a 403 error. Is it a public site? Can you visit the front of the main site without being logged in?
After being puzzled by your setup, I asked more knowledgeable server folks, and you are in Windows hosting, not Linux, right? That’s going to take some special setup for multisite, which I’ll try and help you find instructions for. Everything I’m finding is more than 3 years old, and I want to verify that we are getting you correct info.
Have you verified with GoDaddy that your hosting plan supports mod_rewrite? You might ask their support if their IIS supports multisite?
Thank you very much Bet! It works now!
I changed the web.config file as it says on the links you sent me and solved the problem! I was able to access to the subsistes dashboard and change the theme.
Thank you for your help and patience!
Problem solved!
Yay! Glad we could help you work it out!
