Theme Index File Issue

    Hi,

    I have purchased a theme from a site that seems to have stopped offering support and I’ve have run into a bit of an issue trying to install it.

    If I try to upload as a zip I get the missing CSS file error:

    “Installing the theme…

    The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.

    Theme installation failed.”

    If I unzip the files into the themes folder in wp content and go into the WP themes page I get the error for missing the index.php file:

    Name Description
    Flavour/css Template is missing. Standalone themes need to have a index.php template file. Child themes need to have a Template header in the style.css stylesheet.

    When unzipped the folder created contains this:

    css folder
    fonts folder
    img folder
    js folder
    index.html

    If I click on index.html it creates the page as expected. I have tried changing index.html to index.php but this did not help.

    I presume that I need to rename something to get it working as it looks like all the required files are there, they just aren’t in the right place for whatever reason.

    Are you sure you’ve purchased a WordPress theme? A WordPress theme requires at least a style.css and index.php file, and normally needs a functions.php file, but what you’ve purchased doesn’t appear to have any of those, or any other WordPress templates. WordPress themes typically don’t have an index.html file either. Where did you purchase this?

    Is there any reasonably easy way to convert this to a WP Template?

    It depends on what you mean by “easy”. There’s not going to be anything that will do it for you automatically, if that’s what you mean. A developer is going to need to be involved, and the quality of the result will depend on the skill of that developer. There are people/services out there for converting designs to WordPress themes, but this wouldn’t be the place to seek them out. My suggestion would be to try and seek a refund and then look for something similar that is actually a WordPress theme (the word theme is important here, a ‘template’ isn’t necessarily a functioning WordPress theme).
