    I created a template by copying album-compact.php to mytheme/nggallery/album-myname.php and by adding echo do_shortcode('[album id=1 template=myname]'); to my theme.
    After I added something to this template, I was surprised the browser (or any other browser) would not show my changes. It took me a long time of trying to find the problem (was it calling the right template? Emptying cache 20 times? Other interfering files? )
    Only after changing some settings in the backend before my changes would show up (any settings like f.e. gallery settings) .
    How is this possible? If I change or add html/php to a template, why doesn’t it show up right away?
    Where is the ‘delay’?

    My guess is that you need to delete the wordpress cache itself (i’m assuming you’ve just been deleting the browser cache; if so, I ran into the same confusion long ago).

    I’ve been out of the scene for a while and am going back through and re-familiarizing myself with things, but assuming there isn’t a simpler way of doing this now, what works for me is the WP Super Cache plugin. install/activate it, then go to the contents tab. There you’ll see ‘delete expired’ and ‘delete cache’ — i usually hit both, since sometimes I’ve experienced updates still not ‘showing’ otherwise.

    Hey there Eric,
    You are right, it has to do with cache, but inside NextGen. The same thing I can also do by going to Gallery > Other Options > Misc > clear image cache. Very annoying however, since now I have to do that at every little change while developing.

    Thanks for the suggestion, at least I know now what the problem is so I won’t have to spend hours finding the mysterious bug 😉 !

    Thanks–and glad you found your solution; I actually save a bookmark to the cache clearing page to make it quickly accessible–maybe you could do the same?

    BTW, you may be able to do me a really simple favor–i already posted for help on this, but still waiting for answer: under other options>lightbox effects>show advanced settings, with lightbox selected, what is the ‘code’? I accidentally deleted it!

    thanks! just to be sure, it doesn’t also have something like %GALLERY_NAME% in it? the other ones all seem to have some variation on that…

    hi,

    Not when lightbox effects are selected, only when you select one of the other effects it seems…

    Can I ask you an off topic question as well?
    I am looking for a way to select the amount of galleries shown in an album. I need to be able to set a different amount on different pages (home page x amount of galleries, photo page another x amount of galleries). Right now I am using the echo short code to show an album, but is there another way you might now of?

    Thanks for the prompt reply–also i tested it, and the code is working!

    Wish i could offer some input on the album issue, but i have yet to even use that feature, so I’m clueless. Hope you find what you’re after!
