Theme Upgrade Bug Found
-
Hello, I am not sure if this is the correct place to post this issue, but please feel free to move the thread to a different subforum.
I have a website that is running a theme called CORP, but looks like that theme is out of service from the original developer. It used to live here: http://gt3themes.com/wordpress_themes/corp
I had not updated my site or themes in quite a while. Today I ran a theme update, as my control panel advised that this theme could be upgraded to a more current version. I executed the update through the control panel.
Then when I checked on the frontend of my website, it was a completely different theme. At first I thought the update had gone horribly wrong, missed some files, or something. After some digging, I discovered that the GT3Themes CORP theme no longer exists, and the theme that was actually showing on my website was now this much older theme also named ‘corp’ from the WP theme repository: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/themes/corp/
SO, it seems that what happened was the WP Updater is getting mixed up between the two themes, and if anyone is still using the GT3Themes CORP theme and attempts to update, they are going to be in for a rude surprise as I was. Fortunately, All I needed to do was go into my webhost, remove the current theme file, and re-upload an local copy of the real corp theme file. It appears that the auto-updater did not affect the database, as once I restored the original theme file, all was well again.
