Hey there. I JUST started wordpress today and have a problem:

I am using the theme WEN associates and in the preview it shows this nice slideshow/slider with a picture and a text box on top of the picture – I’d like to do something like that on my blog! I have no idea how to.

Can anyone help me out? What I need is a walk through of what the function is even called, where it is, how I set it up etc. Yes, I am VERY new to this, sorry.

I think what you need to do is log in to the Admin and then go Appearance -> Customize, click on the arrow by Featured Slider to expand it, and choose Slider Type. Select where you want the slider to display; e.g., entire site, home page only, etc. Set any Slider Settings that you want to change, though I’d leave the defaults until you get it working. Click Save & Publish.

Next, when you create or update a page or post you want to use for the slider, you will see a section called Theme Options. For “Choose Image Size in Single Post/Page” you can select “wen-associate-slider (1300×440)”. If you add a featured image of that size to the post/page, I believe it will show up in the slider once you publish the post/page.

It looks like the slider grabs the title of the post for the title and the first 50 or so characters for the text below the title that appear in the overlay of the image.

That seems to work, thank you.
