theme woocommerce.php not overriding

Since updating to 3.3.1 this morning, my theme’s (my own custom theme) woocommerce.php is not overriding the woocommerce/archive-product.php template.

Any ideas as to what the issue may be?

If you’d like to use templates in this way, you need to declare WooCommerce theme support. See https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/90199/how-to-declare-woocommerce-support-in-your-theme

Might be worth testing it first without the woocommerce.php file. 3.3 has better out of the box support for non-wc themes through the use of shortcodes.

Thanks Mike,

I already have add_theme_support( ‘woocommerce’ ); in my theme so that cannot be it.

My woocommerce.php had some custom sidebars that helped filter the products. But now I just get the product grid.

Check it’s added correctly using the correct after_setup_theme hook otherwise it won’t be detected.

It is being hooked into ‘init’. I will change it to ‘after_setup_theme’ and see if that helps.

It should; init is too late.

OK – that fixed it. Strange that it worked before. But it looks like I did not have it correct.

Must be called in the theme’s functions.php file to work. If attached to a hook, it must be ‘after_setup_theme’. The ‘init’ hook may be too late for some features.

WC is likely using some of those features now that won’t work on init, that’s why it doesn’t work when done incorrectly now 🙂
