Themes 1&1 Hosting

I am using managed WordPress with 1&1 hosting. All of the tutorials I have looked at shows that themes appear under the appearance tab and there is a massive amount of themes to choose from. In my case, I only get a select amount of themes to choose from in the setup wizard and themes are not listed under the appearance tab. Same with plugins. I don’t get near the selection the people in the tutorials have. Is this because I am using the managed version of WordPress? Any advice is appreciated.
