• Hi, I’m brand new to wordpress and am looking at installing the “Sliding Doors” theme. My question is if I setup a site using this theme, and start creating pages and content will I have to redo all that work if I want to use another theme? Thanks,

    MGA

  • Hi

No, content and appearance are completely separate in WordPress.

Your posts and pages are the content.

The theme takes care of how the content is displayed – what it looks like in the browser. The content itself is the same no matter what theme you use to display it.

The only theme “alterations” that can be shared between themes are the sidebar widgets. The rest of the alterations are stored in the actual theme files. Though the changes will always remain with that theme (unless you delete it), they will not transfer to another theme.

Thanks, but just want to make sure I get this correct:
    1) If I change themes posts and pages remain the same
    2) Theme alterations will be lost if I change themes

    That’s exactly correct.

Try switching between the default theme and the sliding doors theme. You’ll see that the appearance of your site is different, but the content you wrote is still there.
