• When using the “UPLOAD” option for installing themes and plugins the .zip files are being saved uncompressed in the uploads folder and showing up in the media library. Is this new functionality in 3.5.1, if not, any ideas on how to correct it?

  • Are you using the upload option in Appearance > Themes > Install Themes or something else?

Yeah using the Appearance > Themes > Install Themes option.

No, it is not. The upload option in install themes should work. Something seems to be amiss.

Did you try uploading themes using an FTP client or hosting c-panel?

Yeah, uploading through ftp works fine but its not something the person who is working on the site will be able to do.

Then you may try the usual trouble shooting steps as follows:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

I haven’t installed any plugins or themes yet so I’ll try re-uploading the files/folders and see what happens.

Re-uploaded files but the problem still exists.
