• Hi. I’m loving this plugin and with a solid working understanding of CSS it has been effortless to give my end user much more control of his typography instead of having to rely on me (his web engineer) to do everything in custom CSS.

The only issue I have run into is interoperation of this plugin with WordPress’s “Live Preview” feature, also known as Appearance > Customize or the WP Customizer.

Originally when I installed Easy Google Fonts everything worked so perfectly, I could even see the changes in fonts reflected instantly not only when I moved the sliders for font size and positioning, but even when I was browsing through the drop-down menu for the available fonts. This was simply wondrous because it was truly an instant, live preview of hundreds of Google Fonts (once I set up the API key). All I had to do was open the font family drop-down and then move through it with mouse or arrow keys and watch the font for a selected control change in the site preview instantly.

Then one day recently I was updating and setting up other plugins, including a security plugin (Sucuri) which does most of its magic by serving the website through their own caching proxy and nameservers. I had some trouble with trying to set up the site as https-only and reverted back to serving it, for now, with http. After that issue was resolved, I found that live preview was completely broken for Easy Google Fonts controls, and I would only see results of changes after I clicked Publish.

That was not good. So I disabled and re-enabled the plugin, and cleared my caches and cookies, logged out and back in, force refreshed the admin page for the site. After that, hooray, live preview mostly works — but only for changes to font color, appearance, and positioning. It no longer instantly displays changes of font face. Like if I’m in the dropdown menu and I press the arrow key to move from Arial to Verdana, I will not see the display instantly update.

I know that is pretty arcane and could have a lot of causes, but I wanted to see if anyone has ideas for me on fixing this. I know it is possible that the caching proxy simply breaks that functionality, but I don’t want to give up if there is a solution that is not too crazy to implement. Thank you.

    Hi cataphor,
Have you tried setting more specific css selectors for your font controls to see if that solves your issue? It seems like the theme you are using (lyrical) could be overriding your css somewhere during the live preview. Let me know how you get on. Cheers

Thank you, Sunny. I ended up ditching lyrical in my development branch and rebuilding the website completely from a barebones template theme and have not had any troubles with fonts and live preview / theme customizer since then.
