I wanted to share some context and challenges I’ve been facing with the WooCommerce Google Shopping plugin.

One of my clients just launched the shopping cart on their website—a site that’s been running for 10–15 years—so this was a big milestone. Naturally, we wanted to integrate Google Shopping to help get their products out there. This plugin appeared to be the right tool for the job.

On the 10th, I installed and connected all four required Google services. This process was a nightmare, and took hours to complete. The setup kept freezing and not moving forward after logging in. Once I got through the setup everything seemed fine at first. The site was already connected to Google Analytics through Site Kit, so I didn’t expect any issues.

However, on the 17th, I noticed that Google Analytics hadn’t recorded any data for the entire week. That’s when I discovered Site Kit had been deactivated—something I definitely didn’t do manually. I can only assume the plugin deactivated it during setup, which I’ve never seen happen before. I reactivated Site Kit, hoping everything would return to normal.

Unfortunately, even after reactivating and reconnecting all the necessary accounts, Analytics is still not receiving any data. I’ve spent the past two days troubleshooting this plugin, trying everything I can to get it working correctly—without success.

To make matters worse, the plugin offers no clear interface for managing or building a product feed for Google Shopping. I expected some kind of tool to select or manage products, but instead, I’m just brought to a basic backend with no product configuration options. It does show some ad campaign info, but that’s not very helpful for our purposes.

In short, the plugin seems to be disrupting core functionality (like Analytics) and lacks the tools I expected for Google Shopping integration. It’s been an incredibly frustrating experience.

Thanks for your time, and I’d love to hear if others are experiencing similar issues or have found workarounds.

    Hi there,

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed overview — I completely understand how frustrating this experience must have been, especially during such a critical time for your client’s store launch.

Based on what you’ve shared, it seems the Google for woocommerce may have interfered with your existing Site Kit setup, particularly affecting Google Analytics tracking. While this shouldn’t happen under normal circumstances, there is a key detail mentioned in the Site Kit documentation that might explain the behavior you observed:

“If you have WooCommerce installed and activated, when attempting to set up Google Ads, a popup will appear to inform you that you can use the official Google for WooCommerce plugin to connect your site with Google Ads. This can be used as an alternative to using Site Kit, and it provides a more dedicated WooCommerce integration.”

This suggests that the plugin was likely presented as an alternative to Site Kit during setup and may have unintentionally overridden the existing Analytics integration. Please note that,

When you create a campaign through the extension,Google for WooCommerce automatically sets up the following conversion actions for you:

    • Purchases
    • All Pages (Page View)
    • Product Page
    • Add to Cart button
    • Cart Page

While there are several different types of conversion actions created, the only one that Google for WooCommerce assigns a conversion value to on setup is the “Purchases” action. Meaning your Performance Max Campaigns are set up to drive as much value from purchases as they can within the budget that you set.

Regarding your expectations for the Google Shopping feed — you’re right, the plugin doesn’t offer a traditional interface for feed management. Instead, it automatically syncs eligible products with your connected Google Merchant Center account, which can feel limited when you’re expecting full control or custom configuration.

    Thank you

Just to clarify: the plugin still isn’t syncing any products. To this day, nothing has been fed from the website—Google has only picked up one item on its own.

Regarding the middle section of your response: yes, I’m well aware the plugin replaces Site Kit. That’s exactly what happened. As I mentioned before, Site Kit was deactivated during this plugin’s setup, and for a full week, we lost all traffic data to Google Analytics. That was a critical loss, and it’s been incredibly frustrating.

Unfortunately, your reply doesn’t address the core issues. The plugin appears to be seriously broken. It doesn’t feed data to Google Analytics properly and actively interferes with other essential tools like Site Kit. I deactivated the plugin last night, and traffic tracking is now functioning again.

    Hi @compassionateveg,

Thank you for the clarification—I completely understand how frustrating issues like this can be, and your concerns are absolutely valid.

To explain further, if you intend to use the Google for WooCommerce plugin, it’s best to disable Google Site Kit, as having both active can lead to conflicts. It’s generally not recommended to use both plugins at the same time—Google for WooCommerce is designed to handle both product syncing and sending data to Google Analytics, which can overlap with what Site Kit tries to do.

If you’re planning to move forward with Google for WooCommerce, Site Kit should be permanently disabled, and Google for WooCommerce should be used exclusively for both Merchant Center listings and Analytics tracking.

That said, I understand you’re currently experiencing issues with product data not syncing to the Merchant Center, and we’d really like to help resolve that. Would you be open to testing with only Google for WooCommerce active and Site Kit disabled, so we can isolate and troubleshoot effectively?
