Can you be more specific about the problems you encountered? What screen(s) were affected? Was just it the Tweets page inside wp-admin, or the front-end as well? What exactly do you mean by “crash”? Does the page time out? Do you get an error message? If so, what does it say?
I have noticed that the Tweets screen in wp-admin will sometimes time out once there are tens of thousands of posts in the database, but haven’t seen any effects on the front-end of anywhere else in wp-admin. I have this plugin running on a couple dozens sites with no real issues.
Automatically pruning old posts is a good idea, but I’m not sure when I’ll have time to implement it.
