Changing the thumbnail size property in the media settings has effect only to the next uploaded images. To resize previously uploaded images use the plugin “Regenerate Thumbnails” which you can find here in the repository.
Did you use the aspect ratio checkbox in the widget?
Did you empty any cache before requesting a page with new settings?

Hi Martin,
Thanks for getting back to me so quick! I tried all of those suggestions and am having the same issues. 🙁
No matter if I use it in the sidebar widget, on the current HomePage or on a fresh page with no added formatting.
I Regenerated thumbnail sizes and enlarged the thumbnail size for future uploaded media.
I’ve cleared all cache and tried both selecting AND not selecting the aspect ration checkbox.
I tried using the custom image sizes as well as the pre-set thumbnail size from my media settings.
I uploaded a fresh photo at 250×250 which shows up sized properly on my blog page, but not using the Recent Post with Thumbnail widget.
Any other suggestions I can try?
I have a screenshot showing the issue in effect but I’m not sure how to upload it here..

I am thinking the theme’s CSS lacks a statement for responsive images. If you would tell me the URL of your site I would take a look at solutions.

Thanks for being quick and helpful as always!
I quite literally have absolutely no idea what happened, but I left my site for a couple days to give myself a mental break and when I look at it today, all the thumbnails are the requested size and totally responsive!
Sooooo… Maybe some of the fixes you’d given me worked their magic between then and now, or the web gremlins were done playing with my sanity and have moved on to bother someone else! 😀
If I run into trouble with it again I’m sure you’ll hear from me, but thanks again for all your help and have a great day!
