    Hi Martin,

All “failed” thumbnails are cleared from the cache as part of the upgrade process. They are re-generated the first time a gallery is viewed.

EDIT: In this case, “failed” means any instance where DG was not able to create a thumbnail from the attachment, which would be anything that shows up with a default icon in your Thumbnail Management tab.

    Hi Dan

Thanks for your reply. I understand what you are saying about clearing and re-creating thumbnails, but the tumbnails are NOT re-created when the gallery is viewed. Even when I create new galleries they don’t show thumbnails. Everything was fine before the update, now it’s broken. Upgrading to the recently released DG 4.1.6 did not help.

I have another WordPress installation for testing purposes, and I could reproduce the problem: Thumbails were created without problems with DG 4.0, but after upgrading to DG 4.1.6 existing tumbnails disappear and are not re-recreated.

    Hi Martin,

Can you do me a favor and install Error Log Monitor and tell me what if anything shows up in the widget that should be in your dashboard following the install? If there’s information there then I will be able to be more helpful.

EDIT: The other thing I would recommend is uninstalling, then reinstalling DG. It is possible that the thumbnail cache was corrupted at some point which would cause issues similar to what you are experiencing. The re-install could knock things loose if that is the case.

    Thanks!

    Hi Dan

I installed a fresh WordPress 4.4 with the default theme and only Document Gallery 4.1.7 plus Error Log Monitor 1.3.1 as additional plug-ins. I tested different PHP versions (5.5.30, 5.6.16, 7.0.1). You can see my demo page here:

    http://www.demoserver.ch/document-gallery/document-gallery-example/

All I can say is: There are no thumbnails, but there are no errors in the log as well.

Let me know if I can support you further in finding this bug.

    Martin,

I’ve taken a look at the DG output in your sample page and the plugin believes that thumbnail generation has already been attempted for the attachments in questions (and thus is not trying to generate them again).

I believe you should find these attachments listed on the Thumbnail Management tab under Dashboard -> Document Gallery. If that is the case, can you please select them all and delete the thumbnails. After that DG should retry generation.

    Dan,

I tried this many times already, and unfortunately it does not help.

Hmm… Well I’m at a loss. The one option I have left, if you are comfortable with it, is that you can send me login credentials for an admin account on your site and I can poke around and see if anything stands out as problematic. If you’d like to go this route, you can email credentials to me here: http://danrossiter.org/contact-me.

Document Gallery v4.1.9 solves the problem. Thanks Dan for investigating and solving this issue so quickly!
