    I’ve set up a number of tiled galleries (all under the Gallery menu option). Using the “Nikkon” theme I’ve got two problems;

    1) Despite selecting a full-width page tempate, the tiled gallery is only displaying in the normal page area – the area where the sidebar would normally be is just blank.

    2) The lightbox slideshow works fine, but when I close it, sometimes it goes back to the correct page, but other times it seems to go back to the page I was on before (almost as if it’s going “back” twice). Try going to different gallery pages and using the lightbox, hopefully you’ll see what I mean.

I’ve tried other themes today and didn’t notice either of these behaviours, so I think this is an issue with the Nikkon theme so I’ve also written to them.

    Thanks,
    Lindsay

Could you check the theme’s functions.php and make sure it defines different $content_width values for each page template. Here is how Twenty Fourteen does it, for example:
    https://core.trac.ww.wp.xz.cn/browser/tags/4.7/src/wp-content/themes/twentyfourteen/functions.php#L28
    https://core.trac.ww.wp.xz.cn/browser/tags/4.7/src/wp-content/themes/twentyfourteen/functions.php#L123

when I close it, sometimes it goes back to the correct page, but other times it seems to go back to the page I was on before (almost as if it’s going β€œback” twice).

Could you walk me through the steps I could follow to reproduce this? Here is what I’ve tried:

    1. I went to Gallery > Animals.
    2. I clicked on an image, clicked on the right arrow a few times to load different images.
    3. I closed the Carousel view.
    4. I clicked on my browser’s back button to go back to the home page.
    5. I clicked on Gallery > Fantasy & Science fiction
    6. I clicked on an image.
    7. I clicked on the right arrow a few times.
    8. I clicked to close the Carousel view.

    Did I miss something?

    Hi Jeremy,

You were quite right for the first problem, $content_width wasn’t being set correctly by the theme, which we were able to confirm and then work around using the Custom Content Width plugin. The developer is going to fix that in the next update.

As for the navigation issues, it only seems to happen in Google Chrome, but it is doing it consistently.

    Thanks,
    Lindsay

I can do one better – here’s a movie of it happening …
    http://www.lpbaker.com/TiledGalleryBug.mov (5.2Mb)

The steps – start at http://www.lpbaker.com
    – select the Portraits gallery and click on the first image to get the lightbox
    – click right five times
    – click the “X” (sorry, the video cut that part of the screen off)
… instead of returning to the portraits page, it goes back to the homepage.

What the video doesn’t show, because I didn’t think to try it until afterwards, is if I click “forward” in the browser, it goes back not just to the portraits page but to the lightbox gallery, but starting on the image I first clicked on, not the image that was displayed when I closed the lightbox.

I did try clearing the browser history in Chrome and even restarted the computer, but the problem persists.

Sorry for my slow replies, but I’ll definitely help you work through this when I can!

    Many thanks,

Thanks for the video! It’s an odd one! And unfortunately, I still can’t reproduce on my end; I tried in Chrome and in Firefox but I can’t get that last redirect to your home page to happen.

Could you try to reproduce the issue in an incognito window in Chrome, where browser extensions are typically not loaded?

Let me know how it goes!

    Hi Jeremy,

I think I’ve got it, and boy, it’s subtle. The problem occurs if you enter lightbox mode *before* the page finishes loading.

Take a look at this movie – http://www.lpbaker.com/incognito.mov (35.2Mb, sorry it’s a big file). Filmed in an incognito window as requested, although that actually doesn’t matter as it turns out.

First I go to portraits, and it works fine. Then places, and it’s fine. But next – animals – displays the bug. Watch the video, you’ll see I clicked on the first animal thumbnail before the page load finishes. Next I go to nudes, which works fine, then I go to places – and again, click before the page loads completely – and the bug shows up again.

To make sure I wasn’t crazy I tried the same process in Safari, which up to now had seemed fine, and the bug appears there too.

You can probably tell from the video, our internet isn’t the fastest here and I tend to be impatient, and perhaps those two factors are why I have the problem and you don’t πŸ˜‰

I’m pretty confident that if you set up a site with a couple of really large galleries that took a while to load in your browser, you’d be able to reproduce this. I hope so, anyway. I was a computer programmer for over 20 years and I know how infuriating these sorts of bugs are!

    Many thanks,
    Lindsay

Excellent, nice catch! I was able to reproduce as well.

I created an issue here to track this problem, and we’ll see what we can do to fix this.

In the meantime, I’m afraid I can only recommend that you wait a bit before to open the Carousel view. πŸ™
