• Goodmorning

An interesting feature would be to overlay custom tiles on top of a basemap:
this allows to draw custom transparent maps that from my point of view, are pretty beautiful as shown on the link.

    Thanks

    Hi Cristiano,

Thanks for sharing your feature idea, it looks good. I will have a think about if/how this could be integrated into Waymark.

Do you simply upload a single image? How do you set the positioning?

    Cheers,

    Joe

    Hi Joe

i use the tiles stored in the server https://www.visitsicily.eu/VENDICARIMAP/{z}/{x}/{y}.png

To produce the tails i use Maptiler (Desktop feature) , it assigns the coordinates to the drawing i have and produce the tiles with the zoom range i need.

    Hope i m clear

    Thanks

P.S. The feature could be just showing 2 basemaps overlayed

    Thanks for the extra detail.

So if I understand correctly; you are able to load the Maptiler layer with Waymark, but you would like to display multiple Basemaps at once?

    This is an interesting idea.

    Hi Joe

I would like to sponsor this feature.
Moreover to have offline Custom maps using your plugin it would be necessary to have tiles preload (seeding) JS function.

    Hi @ccapp,

Please feel free to outline more details (images are helpful too) about the specifics of how you see the Basemap feature working (front-end and back-end). That will help when looking into it to determine how much work this would be. However, I am quite busy at the moment so I can not give any guarantees as to when I can get to this.

Feel free to elaborate on this too. What are you offline requirements?

    Hi Joe

i can’t give more technical details because i don t know much about code, what i would need , is: Add custom tiles on top of basemap , tiles stored in a server i.e. https://www.visitsicily.eu/VENDICARIMAP/{z}/{x}/{y}.png

After this , a plugin made for hiking or trekking should work with no internet…below some assumptions i made:

    WORKING OFFLINE:
i ve used your plugin with no internet and the map + user location displays, WOW GREAT!!!, Other pluging do not do this

The problem is that to see the area i want in offlinemode , i MUST SEE IT ONLINEMODE FIRST , in this way the map (tiles + zoom)are charged in the cache, when i m offline the map can be displayed.

I was thinking to PRECACHE PREFETCH PRELOAD PRERENDER tiles with different zoom of the area I NEED using a function (JavaScript?), but i don t know anything aboute code.

Perhaps using a WEBAPP to support caching would be thinkable , …

    Thanks

P.S. The good thing is that lines , Markers , shapes are always visible , either on line or offline , it is only the background map that need internet to show or need to be preloaded before going offline

    Hi @ccapp,

Thank you for the extra detail, really I like all of your suggestions.

I of course see the need for offline Basemaps and have experience with creating native mobile mapping applications. My ultimate goal for Waymark is to offer full offline functionality, however this is a tremendous amount of work.

At the moment I have other priorities before these get to the top of my list, but I do plan on getting there! For now I have added your suggestions to the features list, please feel free to add any further details or other feature suggestions there!

    Cheers,

    Joe
