Hi, I just installed this and the time codes do not match – well they do match kindof – the lastpass authenticator rolls over to a new code much earlier than the website seems to. This gives me a 1 in 3 change of entering a wrong code. I deleted the details in the app and scanned the code again with the same result.

I understand that lastpass authenticator is not google authenticator, but it works just the same for all the other sites I have 2FA switched on.

    Any suggestions?

    Hi Ian,

This means that the two relevant devices – your device generating the codes, and the webserver with the plugin checking them – disagree on the current time. If/when they agree, they’ll generate the same codes. (N.B. If the difference is small, it won’t matter – the plugin checks back codes for the last couple of minutes).

Sorry, I was about to post back. Somehow the automatic time update option got turned off on my phone. My webhost’s serve is also about 7 seconds slow, but it does seem to be working now.

The plugin checks back codes – does that mean that a slow server is more of an issue than a slow phone?

Many thanks for the prompt reply.

Is there a comparison of free vs premium versions anywhere?

    Hi Ian,

IIRC, it checks forwards and backwards. So 7 seconds should be no problem.

The extra features in the Premium version are noted in the feature list here: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/two-factor-authentication/

At me tazhe problema. The problem appeared after the last exposure, on the previous version it was not. The codes do not match.

I’m walking +3 hours from UTC, maybe the reason is this.

No code that touches code generation has changed inside the plugin (for several years). N.B. You can download old versions of the plugin at https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/two-factor-authentication/advanced/ .

Timezone display is not a problem. But it is a problem if your server thinks the UTC time is 3 hours different to the actual UTC time (i.e. if somebody decided to use changing the clock to an incorrect time as a substitute for zone settings).

The best thing to do is just 1) log in (see the FAQs for how to de-activate the plugin) 2) Check what the plugin says your server claims UTC time is 3) Check what your code-generating device says UTC time is 4) Check what actual current UTC time is, and compare with 2) and 3).

P.S. I’ve just released version 1.3.5, which adds more tolerance for codes generated on devices with the time running fast. This may well solve your issues.
