• ok for some time i have had a problem with my live site and tiny mce was not working – i only had the html editor.
I put this down to to many plugins with confused settings etc and thought when 2.5 was out i would upload the files into a clean folder and copy over the wp-config.php file and hey presto a new clean copy with the existing database but clean files.

Well i did this and everything seemed fine. till i looked in the admin.
no option for visual editor ! just html 🙁
I have been keeping up with 2.5 dev and deployed each version of my desktop xamp wamp uniserver and wampserver servers and each one worked like a charm with both visual and html editors so where is the setting that i can only guess must exist on the database somewhere to say ‘don’t use visual editor’ (as this is the only thing i havent changed – keeping my old database code).

I have done the old epty cache cookies etc and multiple refreshes

You might have the visual editor disabled. Go to Users->My Profile and turn it on for yourself.

Well now i just feel like an idiot.
seems like a slightly strange place to put it but i guess it’s kinda sensible.
like i said i guess it must be a setting kept alongside your user info in the DB, and thats why a fresh install with the same DB didn’t make any difference.
Thanks ever so much. at least i have the satisfaction of a fresh clean install ! 🙂
