When editing pages on my production site, the captions attached to images are no longer working. Instead, the caption text appears in what looks like a shortcode, wrapping the image.

Also, there is no longer a button to click through to the fullscreen editor view.

I’ve tried removing plugins that seemed like likely culprits. I am not running TinyMCE Advanced on this server. The WordPress installed on this server is multi-site, and these symptoms are happening across all sites, some of which have different templates, which leads me to suspect either a plugin or a corrupted WP core file.

This is a screenshot of what it’s doing.

I have several other WP sites, all running 3.3.1, and this does not happen on any of them.

Unfortunately, this is a production server, and I can’t just remove all the plugins and add them back one by one. I will take a copy of the site and see if I can reproduce the problem on the copy, though.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    Thanks, esmi!

I managed to get a copy of my production site set up in a test environment, and after disabling all the plugins and adding them back one by one, I have traced the issue to a plugin I wrote in-house. Debugging now, but it’s good to know where the issue comes from.

The problem stemmed from using wp_tiny_mce, apparently. Fixed now.
