Hello!
The title branding validation tries to match the value of the “Site Title” setting in the current page’s title string. You can find the Site Title at /wp-admin/options-general.php.
If the “Site Title” (brand) is not part of the title output, Google might replace your title with what they think is best on their Search Engine Results Page (SERP). This replacement might be undesired, and it causes the pixel/character counters to be incorrect, so that is why we display the warning.
I cannot say from here why our validator fails to match your input without a link to the page in question. If you believe there to be an error, please do follow up with additional details. Thank you!
Hey, thanks for responding!
So my site title in /wp-admin/options-general.php is: brand name – online marketing agency. Which is why I find it odd that it’s still considered non branded, I included the brand name in the title.
No problem 🙂
The Site Title should only be the brand name, without anything added to it. It’s the glue we use to define the site’s brand; via structured data, taxonomies (i.e., date archives), among other things.
If your theme doesn’t allow playing around with this all too much, then it’s best to reach out to its developers. The General Settings’ “Tagline” should be “online marketing agency”.
With all that said, I’m still working with limited information here–a URL would really be most helpful! That way, I can give more educated replies.
Tried it and it seems to have worked. Thank you!
