    Hi Sybre,

Hope you can help. I seem to have my settings correct (same as how I have done for another site) however my home page title tag & description appears not to be picked up correctly by google or bing and the woo commerce aspect of the site seems not to be getting indexed very well, whereas more recent posts added to the site seem to be doing better. It’s hard to explain, any ideas on what I may have missed / doing wrong?

    Thanks in advance,

    John

    Hi @website-update-services,

    Title:
The homepage title you’re using is considered “too long” for Google to output. This means they will truncate it wherever they see fit, or they even completely alter it based on aggregated data.

If you enable the pixel counter, the bar next to the title and description entries will guide you on this…

    Descriptions:
…However, Google recently changed this guideline, so I recommend sticking to about 160 characters until I find out more.
And, this might be one of the reasons why your descriptions are altered; even though they should’ve fitted.

When the outputted description doesn’t match the one you’re entered at all, it might be because the search-query doesn’t match any word in the given description. So, Google will forge one from the content. The Focus extension should guide you in this.

    Indexing
Pages that have more backlinks and internal links tend to rank higher and be found faster. Although I don’t think your website should change in layout (it’s great!), I do advise hiring an SEO to inspect and improve this.

I hope this provided you with some inside knowledge. Cheers 🙂

    Hi Sayre,

Thank you for taking the time to give such a full reply. Very much appreciated. I will take it onboard, look at shortening the titles and investigate the Focus extension etc.

    Kind regards,

    John
