    Hi there,

Not sure this is the right place to post this, but I’m trying to install a new website onto my Godaddy multisite hosting. I have setup WordPress 10+ times, including wiping the SQL databases, installing different versions of WordPress, and even letting Godaddy automatically install it. Yet, every time I enter the original database info, I get this error, “Too many redirects occurred trying to open… (site). This might occur if you open a page that is redirected to open another page which is then redirected to open the original page.” (And I know I’m doing this part correctly as this is the 12th WordPress site I’ve setup…)

I cannot for the life of me figure out WTF is creating this issue. I have had odd issues with my hosting, wordpress, and other plugins since installing iThemes Security on another website on my hosting account, so wondering if it’s that. I deactivated iThemes; however, this did nothing! Is there a better way to deactivate it? Could this be an issue with the .htaccess file?

    Any thoughts? Help? Anything?

    THANKS!!

  • Hey @joshua3333

To fully rule out iThemes Security you’ll need to either remove or rename the directory that iThemes creates upon install.

Have you logged a fault with GoDaddy support and what did they tell you?

GoDaddy was of no help. They did a lot of research, but eventually just told me it looks like a content issue, so it’s not really their domain. :/

Anyway, while on hold with them, I poked around my server and tried hiding the .htaccess file that iThemes Security put on the top of my server. I put it in a different folder and reloaded my site. Then, with many weird errors reminiscent of Super Mario Brothers 3 glitches, the site let me finish the install.

And now, the site works. I replaced the top level .htaccess, and everything seems to work perfectly. 🙂 🙂
