    Hi Ajay,

    Love your plugin and we use it with our site at http://www.soccerwithoutlimits.com but we’ve recently gotten emails from our web-server saying we are going well beyond our allocated server space because of this file:

    top-10-addcount.js.php

    Is it because we have a a good bit of traffic coming to the blog? We have about 150,000 visits a month. We have had to pay quite a big chunk of change b/c our overages – I don’t want to get rid of the plugin obviously so just seeing what options we had.

    dbots, am not sure what you mean by server space? Do they mean RAM or CPU?

    I’ve been testing a “lighter” option to the file above that loads a reduced WordPress environment. I’ve noticed a mixed behaviour, but I suggest you can give this a shot.

    1. Backup your database and your blog first
    2. Edit top-10-addcount.js.php to include this line:

    define('SHORTINIT', true);

    just before

    if (!function_exists('add_action')) {

    Sorry Ajay – basically Media Temple distributes 2000 GPU’s (arbitrary unit) for each registered domain. Its basically used to measure server load. That file has been earmarked because its using a good 40-50% of our monthly server load. Wasn’t sure if you’d dealt with this at all or not..

    I’ve had that issue with Media Temple before I moved over to a dedicated VPS since I hit overages as well.

    The problem with the implementation is that it needs to load WordPress’ environment.

    Frankly I’m not aware of a clear-cut solution other than using the SHORTINIT option which usually works.

    I suggest giving this a shot and monitor your CPU usage over a few days.

    I have released the new version of Top 10 that incorporates some performance optimisation, especially those I mentioned above.
